This Day in Dodgers History

August 20, 1974 – In a 18-8 rout of the Cubs, the Dodgers collect 24 hits and set a club record with 48 total bases including Davey Lopes’ three home runs, double and single. The Dodger second baseman’s 15 total bases is the most ever for a leadoff hitter.

August 20, 1978 – At Shea Stadium, Dodger Blue becomes black and blue as pitcher Don Sutton and first baseman Steve Garvey begin fighting in the clubhouse prior to their 5-4 victory over the Mets.

Good morning. Lilly pitching today at Coors…..bombs away!

  2. Nellyjune says:

Ahhhh Back in the day when SNL was actually funny! Thanks for that clip!
    .
A nice win last night, especially since the D-Backs and the Gnats both lost.
    .
I guess we will find out if Barajas is playing or going on the DL. They said even if it’s only a few-days stint, he would have to go on the DL since the Dodgers only have two catchers on the roster.

  3. 32and53fan says:

Looks like A.J. Ellis might get another chance to play.

  4. messagebear says:

Why not throw FEDE*&^%$# whatever right in there and see what he can do? I think we’ve established long ago that Ellis will never play in the major leagues (at least not with the Dodgers) except in an emergency.

  5. Nellyjune says:

Andre is out of the lineup again, Barajas is out too, but Dodgereric’s mancrush, Oeltjen, is playing 🙂

  6. DodgerZona says:

    Hello,

Tru love the Gravatar 🙂 Lilly= Bombs away for sure Tru

  7. JhallWally says:

Good Morning/Afternoon Outsiders. Nice win last night. Really sucks about Barajas. His numbers are very similar to Russell Martins and pretty much at the league average for catchers this year. That, and that lazy ass piece of shit Navarro doesn’t deserve to play.
Anyway, maybe we can hit more bombs than Lilly gives up today. Go Dodgers!!! Let’s take 3rd place from the Rox. Even if it really doesn’t mean crap.

    • Nellyjune says:

      Good Afternoon Jhall!!!

      • JhallWally says:

Hi’Ya Nelly!! How are you? I read that you were back at school. Is this just getting ready or are the kids back?

Well, must be tuff in a way with Michael going off to school. What an exciting time for him. Remind me again what college he will be attending please. What does he want to study? Anyway, I wish him all the best.

        • Nellyjune says:

I just finished my first week with students. So far they are a fun bunch, but I am getting 3 or 4 new students on Monday, and it only takes one to change a class from a dream to a nightmare – lol!!!
          .
Michael is going to Cabrillo College in Aptos. It’s a JC about 10 minutes south of Santa Cruz. He wants to major in Sports Management, but right now he is just undeclared until he moves to a D1 school.

          • JhallWally says:

Cool. Thanks. I just looked it up and it looks like they have a good record of baseball players moving up to D1 schools. I’ll be watching their box scores.

          • Nellyjune says:

He is only a couple hours away from Merced compared to Mariya who is down in So-Cal. So, it will be easier to take day trips to see Michael. He is living in a two bedroom apartment with 3 other position players. The coaches didn’t want competing positions to live together. So he is with a 1st and 3rd baseman and a center fielder. Should be interesting.

          • Nellyjune says:

Yea, they have made some major growth with their program in a short period of time. So, this group of Freshman coming in should even make them stronger and more visible to D1 and pro scouts.

          • JhallWally says:

Sounds like a blast. Keep us posted on how he is doing.

          • Nellyjune says:

I sure will!! I’m looking forward to not having to look at orange and black for a couple of years. Baby blue and black are a much better combo – lol!!

          • JhallWally says:

LOL!! No doubt. Their uniforms look pretty cool.

  8. trublu4ever says:

Let’s go boys. Make it three in a row!

  9. Nellyjune says:

    Let’s go Dodgers!!!

  10. trublu4ever says:

Hope Tattoo stays with us. I like this kid!

  11. JhallWally says:

SWEET!! WTG Rivera!! Finally got a Good Juan. LOL!!!!

  12. JhallWally says:

I can see them bringing back Rivera, Miles, and Gwynn next year. Maybe even Carroll. I just hope to god they don’t bring Navarro, Blake, Broxton, Loney, or McDooDoo back. It would be good to get Kuroda back on a one year deal also.

    • trublu4ever says:

It will be interesting to see what kind of team we will have if Frank is the owner compared to what we would have if somebody else owns the team, won’t it?

      • JhallWally says:

Definately. Regardless of who is the eventual owner, Ned has to go. Bottom line. His contract is up after next year. Frank could do alot for the future of the team just by dismissing Ned and Conte.
Then they need to start putting more money back into player development and scouting..

      • JhallWally says:

Their main goal should be getting a long term deal done with Kemp. Buy out this last arbitration year and lock him up for the next 5 years. Everything else is trivial. He and Kersh are the only team changing impact players we have.

        • trublu4ever says:

I agree. It would give the fans something positive after the mess this season was.

          See….Lilly SUCKS!!!!! BOMBS AWAY!!!!

          • JhallWally says:

Yep, I still think Ned is more responsible for the crappy on field product more than Frank. Dumping Colletti and Conte would certainly divert alot of the heat for this catastrophy of a season.

          • JhallWally says:

It’s not the ultimate solution of ousting Frank and getting a legitimate owner. But, it is a bone that this dog would be happy gnawing on while we await the big reward.

  13. JhallWally says:

    Ka-Freaking-Boom!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. trublu4ever says:

I blame Ned too. Afterall, he is he one who spends McCrook’s money.

  15. trublu4ever says:

With Lilly pitching 😉 and, the state of our bullpen, I’d say we need at least ten runs to have a chance.

  16. 10 hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings and three whole runs?

  17. trublu4ever says:

Oh, no….something is wrong with Lilly. And, it’s not just his pitching!

  18. Kuo’s sure an enigma this year.

  19. 32and53fan says:

Fu*k!!! I just dropped my laptop computer on the floor. It hit on the edge and the battery popped out. Fortunately, everything appears to be working okay. So far…

  20. DODGER POWER!!

    Freakin pathetic.

  21. trublu4ever says:

Have I mentioned it before……GrrRear sucks!?

  22. JhallWally says:

Geez, how pathetic is freaking Navarro?!!!

  23. is there any hope that Ned gets fired before rosters expand, thus giving way for Logan White to be GM.?

  24. DodgerZona says:

I hope that Ned at least get’s an interview with the Cubs and get’s the job…..But like Enchanted said yesterday McBroke would then hire Hendry

  25. Nellyjune says:

At least the Dodgers can say they scored a run against the Astros. Gnats losing 5-0, including the lead-off hitter getting and inside the park home run, and it’s only the 3rd inning 🙂

  26. DodgerZona says:

I’m rooting for the D’Backs to win the division….Never the Gnats
Always a Dodger fan but being from Az i got to root for them

  27. DodgerZona says:

I surly thought Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr would give it up there

  28. DodgerZona says:

    Here’s McDooDoo

  29. DodgerZona says:

    MacDooDoo will give it up

  30. And the bases are loaded
    McDooDoo at the bag
    Trying to throw strikes
    He’s way over his head

    He walks them all
    Get’s none of them out
    It’s a hard life being a Dodger
When McDooDoo comes to he mound.

  31. DodgerZona says:

    wow

  32. JhallWally says:

    Whew, that was too close.

  33. DodgerZona says:

really surprised he got out of that

  34. DodgerZona says:

    wow Miles

  35. JhallWally says:

    Wah-Hoo!! WTG Miles!!!

  36. Nellyjune says:

    WAY TO GO AARON!!!

  37. JhallWally says:

Holy Cow!! Good for Oeltjen. That ones for Dad/Eric.

  38. DodgerZona says:

    OOOOOOOOOOeltjen

  39. Nellyjune says:

    WAY TO GO TRENT!!!
    .
Dodgereric’s man crush just got bigger 🙂

  40. nedisajerk says:

I wanted the 1st inside the parker for the team to be Gordon in this ballpark.

  41. DodgerZona says:

    Shut it down Guerra

  42. Nellyjune says:

Let’s go Javy!!! We need to see him more! He’s nice to look at too!

  43. DodgerZona says:

    Damn Helton…Tough out

  44. JhallWally says:

Good grief, what an AB by Helton.

  45. DodgerZona says:

    crap

  46. DodgerZona says:

    crap crap

  47. Nellyjune says:

That sucks!!!! It’s okay Javy!! You are allowed a few.

  48. DodgerZona says:

    Javy’s been awesome

  49. trublu4ever says:

Even though we lost, I take comfort in watching the gnats being man-handled by the Astros!

  50. DodgerZona says:

    Figures Velez….DFA already geez

  51. Javy is learning on the fly..no reason to be down on him..

Why is it that lately, Barajas, Gwynn, Oeltjen, Sellers, Navarro, and Miles have hit HR’s and Ethier has stayed stagnant.. Like it doesn’t matter to him anymore, due to the fact that he’s getting a raise or traded to a team.. Like, the others are playing to be on next years team, while Ethier is staying on the bench hurt..

    • Nellyjune says:

I honestly believe he does care. He has worked too hard in his career to not care. If his toe is infected, it’s no fun, and for him to have to go to the Rockies medical staff to have it taken care of, it must have been pretty bad. I just think he is having a bad year, and it just happens to be the same year we are finding out our owner us shit. Matt had his bad year last. So, I think it’s fair to say maybe it’s just a not so great season for Andre. IMO of course.

      • trublu4ever says:

I believe he actually had the nail removed and, that hurts like hell! He still managed to pinch hit and tried to help the team. Back off….I love Andre…..and, so did most of you when he was on his 30-game hitting streak.

  52. Nellyjune says:

    We haven’t lost yet!

  53. DodgerZona says:

    Still going Tru

  54. DodgerZona says:

Ned’s is in love with this POS…Velez

  55. Nellyjune says:

Some players are having bad games, bad weeks, and bad seasons, but Eugenio4whatever just plain sucks!!!

  56. Velez is really called Veloz, meaning Slow..with his bat of course..lol..

  57. DodgerZona says:

    Come on Hawk

  58. DodgerZona says:

    Darn

  59. trublu4ever says:

Geez, I put the game back on just in time to see the loss! Damn!!!

  60. Let’s go HawkBoy..

  61. JhallWally says:

    Well shit!! Freaking bummer.

  62. DodgerZona says:

    Tough loss…Bummer….Have a goodnight all

  63. Of Course chalk this one up to bad bullpen pitching again..Once again, 3rd place evades us..LOL..
