Kuo and Broxton have been here the longest. Kuo still has an arbitration year left. Broxton will be a FA this fall. Chances are good that he’s not going to break the streak, however long it might be.

Unless this team gets a new owner I can’t imagine anybody wanting to play for the Dodgers. How sad. Players used to want to be a part of the L.A Dodgers. Now, they will avoid us like the plague!

I forgot to mention something in that post in my haste to get to bed. The whole point of my question is that, if it’s been that long that someone like Dreifort was the last to resign, our current ownership hasn’t signed a single player once they become a free agent. Now, perhaps none of them were worth signing, but still………
It may be a year premature, but it raises the point concerning Andre’s situation. If we don’t trade him yet this season, the time will be gone to get anything worth while before we lose him alltogether.
You could even argue whether he’s already hit his peak and may be trending down. You only wish that someone other than Ned could make the decisions here, but I would trade Andre NOW and look to get a couple of decent prospects who would certainly have more than one more year at best to be a Dodger.
Totally agree. You could easily fill a couple thin spots (C & 3B/2B) in the organization with Dre whom (GASP!) I’m growing tired of.

I have to agree with Beav on this one. Ethier is very overrated. Doesn’t hit lefties that well. Power is on the decline. Attitude is on the decline. Average defense at best. He’s not worth 10M per year. Get what you can get now while his value is the highest it is ever going to be.
It’s a foregone conclusion that he will never be able to hit Lefties as well as righties, and as far as value is concerned, this Trade Deadline would be best to trade him, not only for his Arbitration but his youth and bat. As easy as it may seem for us to just say trade him, it isn’t just that easy. However many prospects we may attain, a young GM is taught to trade early and get as best a haul as possible, and an old timer sticks with him till it’s too late.
Now, I love sabermetrics, and although this one is probably going to hurt Dodger fans as well as Ned more than most, it has to be done. Hurt us because its Dre. Hurt Ned because it’s his kid project that he traded for.
I always have respected Dre’s attitude and friendliness and his approach to the game. His service in the community and his contributions toward getting a local hotdog named for a region, but at some point, people have to move on.

Of course, I’d rather trade Kuroda to the Indians straight across for Santana, but that’s just not gonna happen.
Yankees would burn down Cashman’s office if he traded Montero for Kuroda straight up. 2 months for a future catcher. If they had a young Posada or Sanchez that could hit like Montero, they’d do it.
If we offered Kuroda and Webster for Montero, I’m sure they’d listen.
I’d still like Kuroda and Furcal for Middlebrooks and Anderson.
Under the current financial circumstances in addition to Dodgereric’s question, what about Matt? His contract is up this year too, so how are the Dodgers going to pay him enough to want to stay into his FA years. He’s going to be like Jason Werth, called upon to be the team’s star eventhough we will be the bottom feeders of the division for years to come because we don’t even have a viable farm system to help thanks to Ned. Somebody is going to come along and offer him Carl Crawford money and he will be gone IMO unless our ownership has a drastic change.
Unfortunately, the current ownership and resulting financial problems have seriously compromised the team in current player and future FA contract negotiations.
The Dodgers should be negotiating a contract extension with Kemp as we speak. Or at the latest, this off season to avoid arbitration and lock him up for 5 to 7 years. If they don’t get it done before next season starts, I fear he will be outta here and playing somewhere else in 2013.
I have a sure fired way to drop attendance and bring merchandise sales to a screaming halt. Trade Andre because that is exactly what will happen. If there were a sure-fired way to actually get valuable prospects for him, I am not against it from a business standpoint. From a personal standpoint, no I don’t want him traded, but I want what us best for him and the Dodgers. That said, Ned will never make it happen to where both the Dodgers and Andre get what they want. Andre may end up playing for a possible division winning team, but do you really think we will get anything in return? I seriously doubt it.
And therein lies the main problem. Ned. A good GM could most likely get a good haul for Andre. He should at least bring back a top drawer prospect and a couple of mid level prospects. Ned will botch it royally and end up with little to nothing of value.

And if we really want to hurt Frank where it hurts most (his wallet) try trading Andre for crap. Because the only reason “most” fans are still going to the games now are because they are supporting the players. They have said so themselves. So, if you start taking away the players (Kuroda, Carroll, James and Andre) and don’t get anything good in return, now what? Everyone will go to every 5th game to see Kersh pitch. Some will go to see Billz pitch, some will go see Matt play, and you have the few that go to every game regardless. Besides that, who’s going to pay to see just Matt in the lineup, with Lilly on the hill? So, I am not against trading any of the forementioned, but boy, we think it’s boring at times now, think of what it will be like then if Ned doesn’t do it right.
With Ned its not a matter of “if” he doesn’t do it right, its “when.”
Let me rephrase that…..”when” Ned doesn’t do it right.

I think Andre and Matt must be pissed at the crap assembled around them. It’s hard to be on your “A” game every night. And, with nobody to back you up….your team ends up where we are….in the toilet!!
We know that Matt’s agent, Dave Stewart, doesn’t think highly of the Dodgers orgnization, so if he has any influence, Matt will be gone, no matter what.
What management HAS to accept, whether its Frank & Furter or someone new, is that this team is going to be inconsequential for at least the next two seasons while it rebuilds. The sooner they accept that, the sooner they can actually start rebuilding.
That’s also something that players like Kemp, Kersh, and whoever else decides to stay is going to have to accept also. Personally, I don’t think Dre wants to or will accept that.
There’s just enough far enough along in the minors that in 2014 (if they sign Kemp) they could have a pretty decent OF and some damn fine starting pitching. Its imperative then that they make some moves to get some good prospects in at catcher and all the infield positions. Dre and Kuroda could help towards that end. Unfortunately, they’re about the only ones that could.
Playing well or not, without those two in the lineup, it’s a crappy lineup. I know….I know…..Andre isn’t playing his best, but really, who is or has been? Matt? Sometimes. Kersh? Yes, but it’s every 5th start. Billz? Sometimes, but once again, every 5th start. Rubby, Javy and Kenley? Yes, but once again, they are the pitchers. Who else?
I do not want to see Kuroda traded at all but if he is to go I can see him making a difference for the Yanks or Bosox. I’m sure those two teams can see it too. You would think Colletti has the smarts to play them off against each other.
Interesting discussion. I don’t think the Dodgers have ever resigned one of their own “star” type free agents. The Dodger philosophy established years ago (when they were actually run by smart and shrewd baseball people) was to get rid of a player a “year too early rather than a year too late”. I challenge any of you to name a popular star player who was with the Dodgers for a number of years and retired as a Dodger of his own free will (and not because of injury). Jeff Kent might be the most recent but his best years as a player were not with the Dodgers. I am talking of a player who’s best years were as a Dodger. The great Jackie Robinson retired but only after being traded to the hated Giants. Maybe Pee Wee Reese. But all the other Brooklyn Dodger greats that finished their Dodger careers after the Dodgers came to L.A. left for other teams. The great Dodger infield of Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey all finished their careers somewhere else. And more recently we saw what happened with Beltre and Drew. Hisorically the Dodgers have shied away from large, long term contracts. They might overpay for a player but usually not for long term and in fact, Ned seems to be willing to give a player a larger annual deal but not for more than 2-3 years. So I ask, would you give Andre or Kemp a 5-8 year deal, and if so, for how much?
Actually, Bill Russell played his entire career with the Dodgers. He is a rarity in today’s free agent mania marketplace.
I am getting burned out reading about the ridiculous contracts offered to players not much above journeyman level. Jason Werth is locked in at the average price of 18 million per year for 7 years. Adam Dunn signed for four years averaging 14 million per. What will Andre demand?
I guess I am old school with my formative years as a fan being the 1960’s. The guys I think of as stars of that era were Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente and of course Koufax and Drysdale. I can’t even imagine what those guys would be able to get today.
Andre will never be more than a good player. We Dodger fans look at our guys more with our hearts than with our heads sometimes. I don’t want him to leave, but don’t want to see him get some outrageous contract to stay either. If we are going into rebuilding mode for the next couple of years, I would rather deal him now if he could bring in some platinum level prospects.
McCourt has priced a lot of us out of the market by slicing up the seating in so many zones and demanding premium prices for most of them. I miss the old days when O’Malley kept the ticket prices stable for so many years. I actually enjoyed attending a Modesto Nuts California League game a couple of years ago more that my most recent visit to Dodger Stadium.
It would not break my heart if they banned Scott Boras and all of his clients and the other top tier players, back-filled the teams with AAA talent, and rolled back tickets, parking and concessions to affordable levels. There would be more errors and less spectacular plays but watching and talking about the team would be just as fun.

Based on his play so far this year, I think I would go for 5 years and $75 million for Matt. I wouldn’t do the same or anything close for Andre. If you can say that, then you have to see the wisdom of trading Andre now and maximizing what you can get for him. I would hope that would be a top prospect who’s either starting in the majors now or is in AAA with full expectations of being in the majors next year, plus a couple of AA guys to fill the holes that we have.
As I see it now, we probably have Robinson and Gordon at AAA who are worthy a shot with the Dodgers, Van Slyke and Lindblom come to mind at AA, but beyond that I don’t know who you would call a significant prospect. So, we need a lot of help.
Emptying out Dodger Stadium as long as Frank is the owner is just another plus for trading Andre now.
If my memory serves, the only “star” player that left and then came back was Maury Wills.
He was kicked out by Walter O’Malley, who was furious that Wills left halfway through the team tour of Japan following the disastrous 1966 World Series with the Orioles. Koufax, Drysdale, Sutton, Wes Parker and Jim Gilliam skipped the tour entirely. Wills was upset that they made him go since his right knee had been bothering him the entire season.
Wills had a layover in Hawaill on the way back where he was photographed playing his banjo in a nightclub. O’Malley went ballistic and wired Buzzie Bavasi demanding that Wills be traded… immediately. Buzzie sent Maury to the Pirates for that terrific twosome… Gene Michael and Bob Bailey.
Two and half years later, on June 11, 1969, O’Malley got over it and brought him back from the Expos along with Manny Mota for Ron Fairly and Paul Popovich.
And as I recall, Bill Russell was given an ultimatum: retire as a player and become a coach or leave. So I am not sure that qualifies as retiring on his own free will.
I remember Wills getting traded and I was upset. He was (and still is) my favorite L.A. Dodger player. I am glad he is still involved with the Dodgers.

St. Louis suffered three injuries Thursday, forcing backup catchers Gerald Laird (finger) and Tony Cruz (hand) and infielder Nick Punto (oblique) to leave the game.
Do think if Kuroda get traded why might bring up Eveland?
Minor League Player of the Day – Dana Eveland – 9 IP, 0 Runs, 3 Hits, 1 BB, 6 K’s. I don’t take prospect status into consideration for this award, so the minor league player of the day goes to Eveland because he had a “better” complete game shutout when compared to Allen Webster. Eveland only allowed 3 hits and has a 2.55 ERA in his last 10 games.

I have a dilema….I wanted the Dbacks to beat out the Gnats for the division but, I hate to lose. This will be the only time the gnats fans will be pulling for us. Then again, if we beat them and the rest of the teams in our division, we may come out on top. Yes, i know it’s a stretch but, strange things happen.
All I’m rooting for this weekend:
1. We trade away some of the old deadwood.
2. We get some young blood in return that actually has some talent.
3. Frank McCourt ceases to be the owner of the Dodgers (as long as I’m dreaming, I may as well go all the way).
4. As long as #3 comes true, Ned goes away too.
According to mlbtraderumors.com, Royals are dangling Melky Cabrera and Jeff Francoeur for a #3 starter or something close to it.
Why not trade Lilly or Elbert for one of them, seeing as how both are relatively young, inexpensive and are hitting well off than anything we have. Plus, Melky is Arbitration eligable until 2012, with FA till 2013.
Lilly makes 11 mil a yr, so if Dodgers would pay most of it, maybe we could have one of them or if Elbert went, he’d be good for them.
Because Lilly is, at best, a #5 starter.

Plain and simple, Ned’s an idiot. I think Gordon and DeJesus could handle things for two months while we strive for 4th place.
Truth of the matter is, the way that moron structured Kuroda’s contract, I doubt anyone would touch him. Fecal’s vastly overpaid as it is. Carroll is one of Ned’s rare success stories, so I imagine he’s reluctant to let him go. He wouldn’t have the slightest clue how to get value for Dre. And Uribe and Lilly are untradeable to anyone.
BTW, Monasterios is going to have Tommy John surgery. The crack medical staff waited three months and just now decided to do it so that not only did he miss this season, he’ll miss most of next as well. I wish him good luck and hope he’s able to come back someday.
