Pictures of Lilly – Not Very Pretty

Los Angeles Times blogger Steve Dilbeck says the Dodgers have to be concerned over Ted Lilly’s struggles.

“Overall he is 6-10 with a 5.08 ERA. And few of his numbers are good. Opponents have a .473 slugging percentage against him, fifth highest in baseball. He’s allowed 24 home runs, fourth highest. Runners have stolen on him 23 times, tied for first.

After allowing six runs in five innings Saturday, he now has a 7.47 ERA in his last seven starts.”

Furcal SS

Poor Uribe has abdominal pain….he’s been a pain in the ass to me all year!

Let’s help Billz today and score some runs for him. I’v got a feeling Andre and Matt are going to crush it today.

    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!

  2. trublu4ever says:

I take that back…..Billz needs to give us a chance! WTF, he sucks lately!

  3. 32and53fan says:

It was nice to hear Bert Blyleven, speaking at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cooperstown, NY, talk about how he and his father used to listen to Vin Scully and Jerry Doggett when they arrived in Southern California. Later, he credited Vin Scully and Sandy Koufax (through a radio interview) with teaching him how to throw his curve ball, which is described as “cruel and knee buckling” on his HOF plaque.

    • Nellyjune says:

It’s very fitting that Bert spoke so highly of Vin. I had the pleasure of being at three games at Target Field where I got to see Bert do his thing. To the fans at Target Field, he is their Vin Scully. Obviously there is only one Vin Scully, but Bert does a great job at Target Field trying to be like him. The Twins fans love him because, like Vin, he is a great story teller. Just like we do at Dodger Stadium, every time Bert is visible to the crowd, they cheer and applaud him. So glad he was honored today. I didn’t know much about his career until I saw it all over Target Field. I am glad I got the opportunity to be part of the crowd that cherishes one of their legends as we do at Dodger Stadium when we look up at Vin.

Nice win & good job Billz, & Jansen!
    Great closing Javy!
    Jonathan who?

  6. my question is, with all these problems and FA coming up, why aren’t the Dodgers at the least bit involved in the Chris Ianetta sweepstakes. He’s controlled through next season, and would be young for this roster. All our catcher’s are FA this off season or not experienced enough..Why is Ned not dealing old timers and FA’s, and acquiring a Catcher than can help.

A little late, but I’ve been gone. Pentland takes the fall, but as he pointed out, the team has little power and very little speed. The same guy as put this together did the firing???????????

  9. crzblue says:

    Brian,
Yes it was nice listening to Bert Blyleven at the HOF. I love how they had the Countdown to Cooperstown at Target Field.

Great performance by Billingsley yesterday after he loaded the bases. Great job by Jensen and Javy!

The lines to get Fernando’s autograph at Viva Los Dodgers was huge yesterday. The tribute to Don Drysdale the day before was very touching.

With Fernando’s BBH on Tuesday and Kershaw pitching, it should be a large crowd

  10. Not sure why all the tea and sympathy for Pentland. True he wasn’t given much to work with, but then again, you have a bunch of guys he can’t even help get up to their career norms. Speed and power help create runs, but so does situational hitting, and this team is pathetic with RISP and moving runners up. Pentland’s been around for 4 years, and other than when Manny was in the line-up, it pretty much hasn’t performed.

Heads gotta start rolling after the last year and a half, and you have to start somewhere. What’s the old adage, you can’t fire all the players (though that might not be a bad idea) so you fire the coach/manager.

Sorry, not going to lose any sleep over him. Now onto Bunnynutts, Dildon and Ned. The sad thing with Ned though is that Frank’s disengaged from team operations, and he’s the only one that can fire him.

  11. trublu4ever says:

    Sooooooooo happy he has returned!

  12. selltheteam says:

    Just another shitty lineup

    Furcal SS
    Miles 3B
    Ethier RF
    Kemp CF
    Rivera LF
    Loney 1B
    Navarro C
    Velez 2B
    De La Rosa P

Rubby will need to throw a no-hitter or better to win this game.

  13. trublu4ever says:

Velez…..another one of Ned’s ex Giants!

  14. Velez makes me long for the days of Castro.

    Either one.

  15. trublu4ever says:

Let’s have a good game Rubby and crew!

  16. When did we become so bad that wh3n Uribe goes down, officially christened our # 2 worst FA pickup ever, right between #1 Jason Schmidt and #3 Andrew Jones, our best option is Velez. I’m sorry but when did Los Angeles become so bad that a Giant replaces a Giant or that we have an entire Giant roster on the premises.

    • I’d have to say Andruw and Schidt are 1-2. Uribe 3. Then its a real argument as to who’s #4 – Lilly or Pierre.

Of course what’s really sad is that Ned was able to come up with 3-4 deals that were worse than Pierre in the first place.

  17. 32and53fan says:

In case some of you are missing Josh, here is his latest tweet:

    Dodgers Los Angeles Dodgers
For a list of all #Dodgers bobbleheads over the years: http://bit.ly/qpiOHh For tickets tomorrow: http://atmlb.com/pp7tiB

He forgot to mention that plenty of good seats are available.

  18. An Andre Ethier walk and some sort of a Kemp hit pretty much describes the entire Dodger offense nowadays.

  19. How can you, at the tail end of July, feature a guy in your starting line-up batting .000?

  20. Josh — Time for a new thread!!! Sheesh!!!!!

  21. You know Velez is going deep tonight.

  22. Hi-Ya Collie!

I see Velez wasn’t able to turn over the line-up. Sorry I missed that. I was in the bathroom taking a Velez.

  23. colliethec says:

“An Andre Ethier walk and some sort of a Kemp hit pretty much describes the entire Dodger offense nowadays.” By The Beav..

I still would like to see them flipped in the order so Kemp could run a little more. As mentioned the team doesn’t have power or speed. Well we have some speed but when it’s hitting behind Dre it clogs things up.

  24. colliethec says:

    Rabbits up front!!!

  25. colliethec says:

    Texas is up 20-4…

  26. colliethec says:

Gotta give Ned credit with the Midget Mafia.

  27. trublu4ever says:

    YAY… a run!

  28. colliethec says:

Of course he also signed a blind LF’er!

    DRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. vl4eccjr says:

Nice going Dre! It’s been a while!

  30. Nellyjune says:

WAY TO GO ANDRE EVERETT ETHIER!!!!

  31. Miles has pretty much sewn up a 3 year contract from Ned to be our starting 2Bman.

  32. colliethec says:

Nice shut down inning after getting the lead. Way to go RDL.

  33. vl4eccjr says:

Rubby’s pitch count is up. Might be seeing relief earlier than usual.

  34. colliethec says:

    Nice — pitchers best friend!

  35. trublu4ever says:

    Woo-Hoo!

  36. vl4eccjr says:

Another run is good. Might need more if Grrear is coming in. . .

  37. Might Rubby actually get a win tonight?

  38. That Hansen is a genius – Rivera and Navarro with a hit in the same game!

  39. colliethec says:

    Velez almost added one himself!

  40. trublu4ever says:

    Hold your breath….here’s GrrRear!

  41. colliethec says:

    Nibble nibble nibble…

  42. Where does Guerrier fit into Ned’s worst signs? #6? I mean Bloaiza certainly was worse, but Matt’s a multiple year contract.

  43. colliethec says:

He did well there but doesn’t it seem like our pitchers get 2 strikes on a hitter and then nibble to 3 & 2.

  44. colliethec says:

    Let’s pile on!!

  45. Is anyone shocked that even with the middle of the order up, we couldn’t score?

  46. colliethec says:

2nd & 3rd & no one out and no runs… I’m getting tired of seeing that. I hope that doesn’t come back to bite us.

  47. colliethec says:

    Boy KJ is just dealing!

  48. trublu4ever says:

    28,860 paid…..actually there…..about half!

  49. 32and53fan says:

Since Josh has not figured out how to post on ITD or here with his Blackberry, I am passing along his latest communique from Twitterdom:

    Dodgers Los Angeles Dodgers
Just ran into a group of 30 French exchange students at their first ever baseball game. They say they’re all #Dodgers fans now!

    More from the Frenchies:

“Regardez tous ces hommes en bleu. On m’a dit qu’ils étaient morts, mais ils sont encore à respirer. Maintenant, je suis un fan des Dodgers pour la vie. Viva los Doyers!”

  50. nedisajerk says:

How many times have a 5 men infield work when the RF had a 9-2 putout?

  51. colliethec says:

I played on a real good softball team a few years ago Shad and we would play 5 man just for fun. It was really weird at 1st but fun. Of course we were plowing teams when we did that so of course we were having fun.

  52. Just one more hit and Navarro might finally make it all the way around the bases.

  53. trublu4ever says:

    Wow! Nice!

  54. Gosh it’s 8-1. And I love it that they’ve done this with very few gifts from Colorado. Hansen is a genius!

    • 32and53fan says:

Hansen was interviewed on the radio pre-game show and was talking about Miles was watching as an outfielder threw the ball home so he immediately took off for second base.

I like the fact that he was discussing the mental aspect of the game. Looking at the situation and knowing what to do in advance makes a difference.

Al Campanis wrote “The Dodger Way to Play Baseball” in 1954 and the great teams that followed were immersed in that philosophy. The Dodgers have lost their way in the last few years but Davey Lopes has brought it back and it looks like Hansen is a believer too.

  55. colliethec says:

Nice to see some build on runs. They have been few this year.

  56. colliethec says:

Dang I want a Dodger Dog!!!!

  57. trublu4ever says:

    Heeere’s Hung!

  58. Kuo seems a bit wild tonight.

  59. This is where Honeycutt’s wizardry as a pitching coach comes in handy.

  60. trublu4ever says:

Good grief….enough is enough! Thank goodness…he’s out of here!

  61. vl4eccjr says:

Well it looks like Kuo is still far from being right. 😦

  62. Kuo’s just setting up Guerra for the save.

  63. trublu4ever says:

    WTF!

  64. colliethec says:

Mc Doo Doo doesn’t seem to do all that well when coming into games with runners on.

Route 66 the quickest way to home…

  65. trublu4ever says:

    KuoPooPoo!

  66. trublu4ever says:

    Unfreakingbelievable!

  67. Not good – the lead is slowly going away. The pitching ain’t so great and Carroll’s error sure hasn’t helped. C’mon guys, let’s get this thing done!

  68. nedisajerk says:

Should had Elbert to start or even Loney lol.

  69. trublu4ever says:

    Sorry…but, that was strike 3!

  70. Looking like Rubby may not get that win afterall…

  71. 32and53fan says:

How the heck can a 8-1 laugher turn into a nail biter?

  72. vl4eccjr says:

    This is insane!

  73. vl4eccjr says:

    Whew!!!
    Javy saves the day!

  74. The bullpen, with the exception of Javy, has Broxtonitis. That’s my diagnosis.

  75. trublu4ever says:

Yay…thanks Javy! Beav was right….Javy gets a save!

  76. vl4eccjr says:

I sure hope Kershaw gets run support like this tomorrow.

  77. nedisajerk says:

Ok all your relievers that trying to be Broxton and those stupid fielder’s indifference knock it off lol.

  78. I’m starting to like this Javy kid. Another good job.

  79. dodgereric says:

I dunno what’s funnier – watching our BP in the ninth or reading you guys….:-)

An oddity: tonight’s attendance is exactly 12,000 under last years’ for Game 54.

This is the eighth game under 30,000 paid this season after none in the last 5 consecutive years. Sure would be nice to know what the difference is in the turnstiles as compared to, say, the rest of recorded history.

Looking at last year’s attendance for the last 20 games, it might be hard to drop the numbers too much farther. On second thought….

It never gets old reading OTD/ITD, but it’s getting pretty old having to pace the floor hoping our BP doesn’t implode (except Javy). I know…..I know….. You want the implosion – lol!!!

Wow 51.5% I never seen this under 50%

  81. colliethec says:

“The bullpen, with the exception of Javy, has Broxtonitis. That’s my diagnosis.” — SP

    I think it’s more a case of Bunnynutitis…

  82. colliethec says:

I’m with you Shad. I’m not a fan of runners indifference.

    • nedisajerk says:

It like our opponent do it all the time and I never forgot that game when Jansen blew up against the Astros but of course those were steals not fielders indifference. You don’t see us taking advantage of this in the 9th when we trail by a lot.

  83. nedisajerk says:

If Belisario is coming back next season I hope he ready next season and be on time.

  84. Now that’s funny!!

  85. 32and53fan says:

Can’t Mattingly get through the post game interview without rubbing his face? It is a nervous habit but is annoying to watch.

I do the same thing since I have grown a goatee but I am not on TV.

The Rangers had 27 hits and there 3rd baseman Davis goes 0/6 and the only Rangers that didn’t get a hit.

    2011 wins: 53

    • colliethec says:

Tonight the Rangers were asking who’s up after Davis?

      The answer… The other team.

      • Nellyjune says:

And on the other end, Michael Cuddyer got to pitch, and he did better than all the others.
        .
We may have the worst owner and GM, but there are definitely a few worse teams than ours. The Twins definitely had a bad day. Seattle has a had a bad couple of weeks, and the Astros are having a bad year.

        • colliethec says:

That’s whats a bummer Nelly. We actually could of had a decent team if the proper moves were made a year or 2 ago and had an owner that wanted to win vs be competitive. We have some decent pieces that if we had added a CC or maybe a Hunter would of made a difference.

In addition to that maybe making the moves with players such as Wolf & the O-Dog so we’d pick up a couple of draft picks that would of been some prospects which if need be could of been trade chips to improve the team down the road.

  87. grizzy says:

    tea and sympathy?

    • 32and53fan says:

Definition of tea and sympathy from the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary

Kindness and sympathy that you show to someone who is upset
It’s time for action, not just tea and sympathy.

From a song by Janis Ian

Pass the tea and sympathy for the good old days long gone
We’ll drink a toast to those who most believe in what they’ve won
It’s a long, long time ’til morning plays wasted on the dawn
And I’ll not write another line, for my true love is gone
