Despite the last two poorly played games, the Dodgers are sucking in that thin Denver oxygen only a half game back of the division leading Giants.
As the Rockies are the second worst team in the National League, this would be a good time for the Dodgers to get their first four game winning streak and hopefully retake first place.

Helps a lot when the starter can go eight innings to minimize the use of the bullpen.
It does make me wonder if Don would have gone to the pen in the 8th and save a few pitches on Greinke’s arm, if there was anyone down there he could rely on. Maybe he was trying to save the pen for tonight.
A nice outcome yesterday. complaints a few, but overall the dodgers are moving up and harder to beat. They would of lost this game in May. I think Hanley needs to go on DL and get healthy. Rojas is an adequate fill-in. Thank you Uribe! Puig doesnt play center, because of his arm keeps would be runners honest going 1st to 3rd or to home. yea and he still needs work before he goes to “try” and play CF( and Im hoping his hitting comes back ! All star jitters?). Greinke is pretty amazing, I have really have enjoyed watching him, pitch, field and hit! Go First Place Dodgers and a Happy Fourth of July to all and thanks for the freedoms we enjoy.

Just got home, the last I heard we were winning 3-0, now I see it’s 8-0. Looks like an enjoyable game.

It sure was! I did get to see the game from the 6th inning on…and, was so very impressed with everyone. I was kept informed of all the previous action by phone….hope we continue our winning ways tomorrow.

After watching Arruebarrena in the field a bit, you can see why management may not be eager to extend Hanly, though I do not think the new kid will be ready to hit big league pitching next year.
It’s nice to be back in first place, now the trick is to stay there for the rest of the season. It shouldn’t be that hard IF the Giants remain in their funk. It would be a while for anyone else, in the division to make a move, by that time it should be too late.
The Dodgers just have to try to pile on the victories.
The Dodgers certainly cannot expect the Giants to continue losing the way they have nor even count on it. I am confident the players know this quite well even if they always say they do not watch the scoreboard. I am sure they do just as we all do.
So what will happen when and if Crawford is ready to return? Will the Dodgers ask him to play rehab games just to delay the decision? Does anyone get the sense even Dodger management may not be too keen on getting Crawford back considering the logjam in the outfield right now without him?
And considering most of us thought Hanley should be on the DL, I find it interesting he has been in the lineup most of the week but coming out of games for defensive purposes. He seems so fragile but the Dodgers need his bat.
And finally, I hope Puig does not participate in the home run derby. I know it would be fun watching him but I would rather he save his energy for the rest of the season.
Up until now the Dodgers haven’t had to much trouble with the outfield logjam, so I think Mattingly will continue what he’s doing after Crawford returns. Hanley apparently isn’t as hurt as they say since he has been starting lately. Like always we’ll just have to see what happens.
Remember, the original logjam was only 4 players. Now it would be 5 since Van Slyke has proven he can provide some pop. Of course, with the way Kemp has been playing both offensively and defensively, not sure what will happen.

Congratulations to Yasiel Puig for making the All Star team.
Dee, Clayton, Zack and Yasiel all made it. Very proud of them all. This is one All Star game that will be well worth watching.
So glad we have 4, well deserved, All Star representatives.
Congratulations to all four of our guys and an NL win may be important to the Dodgers come October.

Hi’Ya Tru… I hope not…. Like I said, just fix the bullpen….. We don’t have that many great prospects to be giving them up…. Starting pitching is not our weak link right now….. The bullpen is… Now, if you could unload Crawford and his contract along with the deal, I would consider it….
When the Dodgers had a strong bullpen, it was the starting pitching that had all the troubles, now we wish we had a stronger bullpen. I guess it’s the same with most teams.
One thing for sure the Dodgers are better off going into the late stages of the game with a small lead and Mattingly uses his best like Howell and Jansen. It sucks when we’re losing and the ‘pen can’t keep the Dodgers in the game.
I think as long as the offense has a good day, we’ll do O.K.
As long as it isn’t Urias or Seager, I’m down for it. Pederson will NEVER get a chance here with the long term contracts we’re carrying, plus he does strike out a whole bunch. Lee I don’t think is nearly as good as we were led to believe when we drafted him. I’d go Pederson, Lee, and maybe 2 of Anderson, Windle, Reed and Martin/Magill, plus take on the rest of Price’s salary for the year.
We need another reliable starter. Can’t rely on Haren – he looks done. Can’t count on Beckett physically either to finish out the year.
How about Joe Madden for Don Mattingly, straight up?
I’d try to fix the pen before I went after Price. Does he consistently pitch deep into games? Turning a good effort over the pen, as it is now, makes me uncomfortable. It’s possible Ned is trying to achieve both things, a starter and reliever, but I’d fix the pen first. You cannot put Howell, Wright and Jansen out there everyday.
Pen’s always going to be precarious when Matting insists Wilson is a set-up man. The way League has been pitching I’d be more comfortable with him out there in the 8th than Wilson, and I hate League. Paco should be up and Maholm should be out. That would be an improvement right there. Take you pick between Yimi and Dominguez, either has got to be better than Perez.
No reliever’s worth Pederson or Lee by themselves, but I do think you have to add at least one reliable arm though.
However, I think when you have a chance to get Price for the rest of this year and next (I think he has one arb year left), and you have Haren and Beckett at the back of the rotation hoping neither gets hurt, you have to go for it. You have Kersh, Greinke, Ryu and Price you can weather losing Haren or Beckett or both You don’t have Price and one or both go down, you’re looking at Maholm and what – Magill or Patterson? That rotation would be lucky to back into the wild card.
I also believe bullpen help may be more important than starting pitching but then again, when I see that Beckett has a problem with his hip, can a team ever have too much pitching? The problem is simple: Kershaw and Zach will usually go deep into most games they start but the rest of the starters cannot be relied upon to do that. Chris Perez should only get into a game that is beyond hope but why carry anyone just for that? League just won’t go away and he has done well for the most part. Wilson has been good sometimes but certainly not enough. So going after Price gives the Dodgers another starter who should be able to go deep into games. Not sure what I would be willing to give up for him but any deal should include Crawford even if the Dodgers have to eat his pay.
Lost in all the hoopla of trades remains the fact that the Pods interviewed Logan White for their GM opening. I know we’ve all been down this road before, but losing White would be huge. Hopefully the Guggs will throw enough bank at him that he stays, regardless of whether the Pods offer him the gig.
I have to think that White would be willing to take a pay cut to be a full GM Kahli. I’m surprised he hasn’t been snatched up before now. Either he doesn’t interview well, or no one thinks he has wherewithal to be a full GM. Hard to imagine that though when even Ned was able to get a job.
Maybe scouting is his first love, and that’s his main role with the Dodgers…as well as being Ned’s Assistant GM. Kind of like Wallach being behind Mattingly in the pecking order. Weird organizational chart the Gugg’s inherited/created.
With the loss last night, the Giants fell a full game behind us. It’s hard to believe the Giants fell so far from their fast start this year, but who’s complaining?
The Dodgers are facing an elite team tonight, in the Tigers but the Dodgers have proven they can hold their own against anybody.

I also saw the report that Logan White interviewed for the Padres GM spot. I would hate to lose White but if he wants to be a GM and is willing to take on a perennial rebuilding project, then good for him. Interesting how this business works. Theo Epstein was a genius in Boston but not so much in Chicago. At least not yet.
Wow, totally ugly…. I think Ryu is running out of gas……Might want to consider trading for a starter like Price… Especially since Beckett just went down….. And Ethier really sucked at the plate….
